This week saw The Legends returning to Duffy’s Cathedral of Football armed with an exciting new formation and a keenness to triumph, this time over a Mountains team that had narrowly beaten us on the first day of the season. Apart from anything else, it was a relief not to be playing Avoca again – if last Saturday felt like an afternoon spent in the disturbed wing of a psychiatric hospital, then this week was more like having a drink with colleagues after work. Maybe not your mates, but at least they aren’t trying to break your legs. Read more
Well yet again we are on our travels, this time against Killarney Vale at Jubilee Oval. Oh what a pleasure it would be to actually get a game at our own ground!
It was a depleted injury ridden 45 A’s that travelled to Killarney Vale, and with Brad Finch & Rob Scott away and Mark Wheatly our own resident paramedic on shift, we again had to rely on back up from the 35b’n squad i.e. Shaun Roper, Mark Leadbeater, Phil Skidmore & Neal Tardidis ( sorry about the spelling Neal ). Round 7 saw us playing away against another unknown opponent in Doyalson and just to add some further interest to the encounter, it was also first versus second on the ladder, with top spot going to the winner. Read more
The Barnstoneworth 35 BS team made their way west to the delights of Gavenlock Oval, for a clash against a Gosford team that were relegated from A grade last year.
It was always going to be a big ask for us, as we could only field 9 from the regular squad. Apparently 37 registered players is still too few for the over 35 comp. We managed to poach Adam Chandler from the D’s who helped us out superbly in the backs. Read more
Well yet again the 45A’s were on their travels, this time our home game was at Frost Oval.
Carrying injuries to key players, Duncan Stone, Denis Gardiman, Dave Harris, and with Dominic Parkinson away, Rob Scott playing with quad strain and Andrew Stewart playing with a knee injury, we really were the walking wounded. Luckily we had a superb midfield back up in Andrew Yates, and Pat Attard and Todd Shreeve, giving us their best for the first half before leaving for their own games. Read more
It was another hot and sunny day for our first game of the season at the field of dreams that is Terry Oval – the only pitch on the coast with a Brazilian waxing strip down the middle. Early signs were not great – our five subs had been reduced to three before kick-off, and Dave managed to injure himself getting out of his trousers (possibly not for the first time eh Dave?). Back at “Fortress Duffys” against our Avoca “gummies” mates in a game where we desperately needed the 3 points to keep in touch with the runaway leader of our division. There were good early signs for us (after a record attendance at training….. Woohoo!!!) we dominated early field position and were able to maintained the bulk of possession. Read more
Round 6 saw us playing our home game against The Entrance at Pat Morley Oval in our rather swanky white away strip, in which we nearly always seem to get good results for some reason.
Our opponents were one of the only teams in our comp this season that we played against last year, so we knew that we were up for a battle, even given their being bottom of the league. Despite lots of pre-game talk about ignoring our opponents’ league position in an attempt to shake off any complacency, our opponents came at us very hard from the kick off and we found ourselves on the back foot for the opening 5-10 minutes. We took to the field full of optimism after Tim ‘Gettysburg Address’ Watt’s six-volume email on where we went wrong and where we need to improve. Pass and move was the message, and for the most part we did just that. Read more
Well once again, the 45A’s were on their travels, this time away to Toukley. We will need our satnavs to find Duffys oval, if we are ever lucky enough to play there!
The game didn’t start well, kick off time 15.00, but a no show from the referee or linesman, Toukley officials trying desperately to find a replacement, eventually a Toukley official from the canteen took charge of the the game with kick off delayed until 15.30. Read more
