Kincumber vs BUFC 45A Match Report
Well yet again the 45A’s were on their travels, this time our home game was at Frost Oval.
Carrying injuries to key players, Duncan Stone, Denis Gardiman, Dave Harris, and with Dominic Parkinson away, Rob Scott playing with quad strain and Andrew Stewart playing with a knee injury, we really were the walking wounded. Luckily we had a superb midfield back up in Andrew Yates, and Pat Attard and Todd Shreeve, giving us their best for the first half before leaving for their own games.
It was a very hard fought game against Kincumber resulting to some niggles and dirty tactics with some of their players looking like that would have preferred a boxing match instead of a football game! We dug deep a rose above these tactics and let our football do the talking but yet again our forwards failed to convert the chances we had created and the first half finished 0-0.
The team talk at half time was all positive. The boys were told to keep doing what they were doing and the goals will come. Todd and Pat had to leave and with injuries to Rod Evans and Andy Yates after 15 minutes, this left us down to ten men! The boys dug deep and gave 100% effort all around and defended well against the superior number. With 15 minutes left, Mark Leadbeater arrived after his game at Doyalson. Thank you Mark! He went straight onto the pitch which gave us back equality. A great through ball from Phil Lisle saw Dan Waddington receive to ball, who noticed the keeper was off his line and curled a superb ball around him putting us up 1 nil. Mick Hamill arrived, which was a stroke of luck as Andy Stewart was now struggling with his injury, so Mick was the perfect replacement for the last ten minutes.
We hung on for the last ten minutes and defended well but with 2 minutes left Paul Nesbitt received a red card for his second yellow card offence, which again handed our opponents the numerical superiority, but we went to a five man midfield and held them at bay.
Result our first win of the the season, and very well deserved it was.
Man of the match Jim McClean
Goal scorer Dan Waddington
The beer tastes a lot sweeter when you win. Let’s hope this kick starts our season!
