Marcus Aurelius - BarnstoneworthHow you regard Saturday’s game against Kariong depends very much on which of the following philosophical standpoints most coincides with your world view :

‘Man that is born of woman hath but a short time to live, and is full of misery’

‘It’s not a matter of life and death, it’s much more serious than that’ (Bill Shankly)

‘Wisdom, justice, fortitude and temperance’ (Marcus Aurelius)

‘When the entropic heat death of the Universe arrives in 10^103 years, everybody will be too preoccupied to give a shit about the result of an over 35C soccer match between two long forgotten clubs on the eastern coast of a lifeless scorched landmass in what used to be an ocean.’ (me) Read more

Barnstoneworth approached this game against table leaders Umina in a slight state of trepidation, having been defeated roundly at the last meeting. Due to the rescheduling of our washed out round 4 game, we found ourselves facing Kanwal two weeks in a row but this time on our turf.

With some of our missing players able to return our numbers looked slightly better this time around but we still needed to call upon some assistance from the 35C’s in the form of Tim Watt and Leigh McInerny to make sure we could maintain our rotations. Read more

A distinct case of deja vu – Playing the same opponent at the same ground for the second week in a row. We had a great early chance when James Mitchell got himself one on one with their keeper who rushed out and knocked him over the fence into the ambulance station. Penalty awarded but how the heck was that only a yellow???? Unfortunately, Jimmy decided not to wait where he landed in the ambo yard – he could’ve caught the ball from the spot kick… Read more

Barnstoneworth Old Chaps

Despite threatened rain, Barnstoneworth turned up to a sunny afternoon at Gavenlock Oval, where a muddy pitch awaited them. Having drawn with Gosford earlier in the season in a game they thought they should have won easily, Barnstoneworth started the game with confidence, despite being short four key players and down to one reserve.
