Barnstoneworth BS vs Gosford Report
A tough fought 1-0 victory over a Gosford side that punch well above their position on the ladder.
Most of the action came in the first half and after a few half chances Sheeks put us one up after some great lead up work from Jules and Jimmy O. We were unlucky not to go 2 up shortly afterward when Stu McSwan hit the cross bar, but the highlight of the first half (and inevitably the match) was Reido saving our arse on 3 occasions with superb saves – diving full length to his right. Even better when you consider he arrived at the the ground straight from having his hand stitched.
The second half was tough and generally pretty even. We had the better of the opportunities with Jimmy O going close and a Leeroy bullet taking an unlucky deflection when it looked a certainty. We “managed” the back end of the half well and while it was a pretty even contest, our goal wasn’t seriously threatened.
A great all round team effort especially considering most of our regular back line was unavailable – A shout out is in order for Jon Pallot and Brett Abrahams who had great games playing in unfamiliar positions. The Gavenlock “pitch” also played its part with the ref stopping play to check we weren’t using a rugby ball….. (It’s nice to know there’s one worse oval than Duffys & Terry. At least Gosford play on theirs….) The win takes us to third place still with a game in hand, keeping us well in the hunt for that top 2 finish. Next up, Ourimbah @ Bloodtree….
