BUFC O35 B South vs East Gosford
How good was it to be back on the hallowed home turf for the first time in a couple of years, with plenty of support given that a bunch of our teams were “back to back at fortress Duffys” A real highlight of the afternoon!!
FRUSTRATING is the best way to sum up the mood of our contest with East Gosford. We dominated possession and field position from the opening but were unable to find the back of the net. This frustration increased mid way through the first half when our opposition was able to jag the lead with a lob from outside the box that seemed more good luck than good management – although its fair to say we only had ourselves to blame for both the goal and the position of being one down.
We did hit back pretty quickly when a slick passing movement started along the back line, found Leeroy in mid field who sent Kev on his way down the right wing. Kevy’s cross was perfectly met at the back post by Jimmy Old who nailed the finish heading back across the keeper and into the net for one of the best team goals we have scored in a bunch a years! 1-1.
We continued to dominate field position and hit the lead shortly afterwards with Jules getting his first for the season and putting us up 2-1. The bitching and moaning increased from this point and, as is typically the case with the green and white, was directed towards anyone and everyone – including themselves. James “O’Donavan” took exception to an elbow from their keeper and (after some discussion) proceeded to sit him on his arse, leaving the ref with little option but to issue our first card of the year – not the colour we were hoping for and unfortunately reducing us to 10 for the remainder of the match.
The second half was well played given our numerical disadvantage. We controlled the speed of the game which was in keeping with our half time talk. Although we survived some close calls towards the back end of the match, we continued to create some good chances of our own and the final score of 2-1 was possibly a little flattering for our opposition. While this was by no means one of our finest performances, it was good to get the win which keeps us in 3rd spot on the ladder. A special congrats to Kev Haines who picked up his first “players player” award for the year (thanks also to Monica – Kevy’s wife – who recorded the votes and tallied up the score sheet this week). Next up: Kariong at Duffys…
Man of The Match: Kev Haines (2nd: Raoul, 3rd: Jimmy O)
