BUFC B’s vs Avoca
Round 4 saw our home game against Avoca thankfully moved from the ‘never-to-be-played-on’ Terry Oval to Alan Davidson Oval in Wyoming. After the disappointment of dominating against The Entrance in round 3 and failing to capitalise, our target was clearly to convert the chances that we had been creating, in order to ensure the securing of all three points.
A warm afternoon and soft pitch made for somewhat heavy going, with Avoca pulling us around somewhat during the opening 20 minutes. Despite this, we were still able to create some good scoring opportunities but our goal-shyness still seemed to be present for a second week and it was therefore of some relief (particularly to Micky Hamill), when Avoca put one into their own net and I doubt we will see a better-hit own goal this season! The game remained something of an arm wrestle for the remainder of the first half but we were able to maintain our lead until the half time break.
Despite discussing what we needed to do better in the second half, more of the same ensued despite our continuing to create chances but it still took until the 60th minute for Jorge to bag a second goal. Doubling our advantage seemed to sap the resistance from Avoca and we were able to exert an increasing amount of control during the closing 20 minutes, with Frank netting on 70 minutes and Jorge getting his second goal a few minutes later. So in the end, the final result was probably a fair reflection of the quality of the chances that we had created, if not the balance of open play but we were happy enough with 3 points and our second clean sheet in as many games.
Man of the match was Lee Self, who worked hard all game and showed his versatility by dropping into several positions.
Final Score: Barnstoneworth 4 – 0 Avoca
