Barnstoneworth do the double

It’s been a fantastic year for Barnstoneworth with two of our teams winning their Grand Finals, ending a 6 year wait for silverware (If memory serves, that was the Ds!).

The 35 As won their final 2 – 1 against Ourimbah in a hard fought battle while Barnstoneworth B North won theirs in a real nail biter where Doyalson were denied twice from the penalty spot by the ever agile Geoff Channels.

With our 35A’s winning their Grand Final the previous weekend, the pressure was squarely on the Barnstoneworth 35BN team to follow that up and clinch the Premiers title to go with our League Championship, which saw us squaring off against Doyalson on the showpiece Pluim 1 pitch. Read more

Barnstoneworth 35 A - Champions for 2016

The 2016 Over 35 A champions are Barnstoneworth. A hard fought game which could, and probably should, have been over in the first 30 minutes with Barnstoneworth hitting the woodwork and missing a penalty. Read more

After being rained off several weeks before, the match against East Gosford became D-grade’s final game for the season, having finished fifth in the competition.

Barnstoneworth B North Team

Due to our Round 17 game having previously been washed out, our final league game saw us travel to Hylton Moore oval play East Gosford. Having already been confirmed as minor premiers, the brief was to use this game to continue to build momentum for the finals series, whilst avoiding any unnecessary cards or injuries. Read more

Due to our washed out Round 17 game being rescheduled to 27 August, Round 18 game saw us travel to play Kanwal in our penultimate home and away game of the season as minor premiers and with the brief being to make sure we used our final two games to build momentum for the finals series and get some more minutes into our returning players’ legs. A “nothing” game with nothing at stake – both sides locked into 3rd and 4th position regardless of what happened on this pitch or any other in our comp.

The focus of our pre-match talk was all about next week: “No reds and no injuries!!”. This was still a match we wanted to win with a good psychological advantage up for grabs going into week one of the final series. Read more

Blazing sunshine and a sticky pitch awaited Barnstoneworth when the team finally managed to find Austin Butler Oval Two, about five minutes before kick-off. With minimal warm-up and missing their goalkeeper, Barnstoneworth made the obvious decision to put their star striker Peter ‘Pez’ Miller in goals. Read more
