Wyoming 4 – BUFC Fs 2

Wet pitch

The team travelled to Allan Davidson oval Wyoming for the first games of the 2015 season and the first game together as a new team. After a trial victory a couple of weeks before, hopes were high of a good first up result.

The pitch was very wet and heavy underfoot sapping our nervous energy within the first few minutes.   Wyoming raced ahead to a 2 nil lead in the first 15mins with a few soft goals while we were still getting used to our positions. We did really well to pull one back before the break and nearly got another after a shot from Ben Johnson crashed into the goalpost.

The boys were confident at halftime and came out attacking in the second half. A good early run from our right winger Justin drew a penalty which was duly buried by Brendan ‘Macca’ McCarthy. Wyoming pressed hard at 2-2 with our keeper Simon making several great saves to keep us in the game.

It was a hard slog for us, down on troops in the second half, and in the end Wyoming grabbed a couple of late goals to get themselves a 4-2 result.

Everyone enjoyed the game and we will no doubt improve in the coming weeks. It was great watching a few of the boys strike up combinations in the midfield and there were no serious injuries to report.

Special mentions for Brett Fenton, playing 60mins in his first game back from a serious Achilles injury and our players player Simon for his great first up hit out as goalkeeper.
