BUFC D vs Avoca

Denied once again the opportunity to play on the field of dreams that is Terry Oval, the 35Ds travelled to Long Jetty in search of their second win on the bounce, against an Avoca team that had beaten the league leaders the week before.

The first half was cagey on both sides, with few clear chances and strong defending at both ends of the envelope-sized field.  It was all square at half time, and having taken their measure in the first half, we pressed hard from the kickoff in the second half, and were soon rewarded when strong work from Scott down the left side turned in a shot that went in / cross that Tim flicked in (delete according to personal preference) to give us the lead.  This didn’t go down at all well with Avoca, who then proceeded to fight hard both physically and verbally, but thankfully Beni was on hand to offer some psychological support to their disgruntled midfield.

A few minutes later man of the match Beni almost made it 2-0 with a fine header denied only by the bar.  We soaked up some late pressure thanks to more strong defending and particularly the welcome return of Della into the back four, and we damn well hung on for the deserved win.  Now we’re up to fourth chaps, let’s keep it up.

Final score: Barnstoneworth 1 – 0 Avoca
