The Entrance vs Barnstoneworth B South Report

A gutsy 1-0 victory for the B South boys over the previously unbeaten leaders of our league. Before this game The Entrance were on 41 points from 13 wins and 2 draws (one of those against us last time we played) and a goal differential of +37.

We were pumped for this One! There had been plenty of talk about starting well and a feeling that if we were able to grab the lead and put them under pressure this could be our day. We managed that mid way through the first half when Gary Fraser (who’s been consistently one of our best this season both with his play and his mouth…) slotted one after Leeroy’s corner resulted in a goal mouth scramble. 1-0 to the good guys!!

For the remainder of the half both sides created a few chances including one cracking left side play that found Raoul in some space. He crossed perfectly to find Sheeky’s head but what would’ve been our “goal of the season” was kept out by a well positioned keeper. Half time came with us still 1-0 up.

The entrance had the better of the second half but became increasingly frustrated with their inability to finish their opportunities. We kept them out with a combination of desperate defending and some incredible goal keeping from Reido. They tried every trick they had including one hilarious penalty shout when an attacker slipped in the mud without a defender within 5 meters of him…. Wtf?? The ref wasn’t buying it, and pretty soon afterwards blew full time on the game and their undefeated season.

This one won’t go down as our greatest or most dominant footballing performance. But we defended our arse’s off, stuck to our game plan and are entitled to be very proud of the win! It’s hard to single out players in a game like this but Gary, Glen and Ant were fantastic at the back and Reido kept us in the match a bunch of times.

Our record against these guys is now 1-1-1, with 3 goals each – no doubt we will play them again during the final series…. Bring it on!!
