Over 45 B1’s crowned Champions for 2018!

Barnstoneworth Over 45s Champions for 2018

The Over 45 B’s 2018 Grand Final between Barnstoneworth and Ourimbah was a great game played in a fantastic spirit by 2 evenly matched teams.

The game was very close from the kick off with Barnstoneworth pushing forward to the lead with a great headed goal scored by Dougie White. Barnstoneworth looked comfortable holding onto the lead until Ourimbah mounted one of their few attacks, during which the ref awarded what can only be described as a dubious penalty, which was converted making it 1-1.

Ourimbah then took the lead with a well worked goal meaning we went into half time 1-2 down.

Barnstoneworth came out fighting in the second half and once again dominated the game. Our seasoned go-to goal scorer Mick McMahon (playing through the pain with what is a career-ending injury) scored a cracker to level it at 2-2 to bring his tally for the season to 25 goals!

Disaster struck almost straight after the kick off. We had a complete loss of concentration at the back and their speedy winger ran through and placed a lovely shot low to our keepers right which again gave Ourimbah the upper hand at 2-3.

The Manager, Sean Hamill, then changed the formation to go with 3 at the back and 3 up front (in for a penny in for pound), might as well as lose 2-4 and go down fighting or go all out for the equaliser! Then, again with some great play down our right wing, Mike Curran sent a superb cross into the path of Shane Little who drove a low hard shot past the Ourimbah keeper to it 3-3! We went all out and pushed for a winner but time got the better of us. Extra time with golden goal beckoned.

Both teams fought hard for the winner, producing a thrilling 20 mins that really could have gone either way, but in the end it would be decided by a penalty shootout.

Victory was ours! Barnstoneworth won the shoot out 4-2!
