Wyong vs Barnstoneworth B North Report
Round 8 saw Barnstoneworth playing the return away fixture against Wyong at Baker Park and looking to maintain our hold on top spot.
Heavy traffic in the Wyong area saw many of the team arriving later than planned, resulting in our warm up being more rushed than would have been ideal and that probably contributed to our slower than expected start to the game. After 15 minutes or so however, we were back to our normal level of performance and in control of the game. Some good lead up play saw Jorge get in behind the Wyong back line and one on one with their keeper but as he rounded him to almost certainly score, the keeper trod on his standing foot bringing him down. Whilst the penalty was awarded, Jorge was clearly in a lot of pain and it took some minutes to get him over to the sideline, which was a major concern.
Tom duly despatched the resultant spot kick with aplomb to notch his first goal of the season to put us 1-0 up, which also meant he dodged an end of season nudie run! He then proceeded to follow that up with a powerful header from a corner some 10 minutes later to double our lead going into the break.
With our control of the game seemingly well established, we set out to stay on the front foot and maintain our dominance in the second half and despite the loss of one half of ‘The Forge’ our only further reward was a well-taken third goal from Chippa to see us run out 3-0 winners.
As satisfying as the win to keep us top of the table was, the loss of Jorge to what appears to be a serious injury did put a big damper on any celebrations.
Unsurprisingly, given his two goal contribution, the man of the match award went to Tom, whilst the Scrotum medal went to Jason “feet don’t fail me now” Doughan.
Final Score: Wyong 0 – 3 Barnstoneworth
