Killarney Vale vs BUFC B North Match Report
After our Round 4 game was washed out, we were very eager to face Killarney in round 5 at Jubilee Oval although another 1.30PM kick off meant for another uncomfortably warm game.
Our opponents were another unknown, being from the Fossils part of Killarney Vale but after five or so minutes feeling each other out, we began to exert an increasing amount of control over the game and in pretty short order we found ourselves 3-0 up through a brace of goals from Jorge and another from Frank. It would not be an understatement to say that we could have been 5 or 6 up but for the heroics of the Fossil’s keeper, whose efforts to foil us even included a penalty save from Frank, meaning we had to settle for 3-0 at half time.
Given our dominance in the first half, it looked like we could be heading for a big win but despite warnings at the break about not becoming complacent, it was hugely disappointing to watch us concede right from the restart, which really lifted our opponent’s spirits, whilst seeming to dent our confidence somewhat. When the referee awarded a very dubious penalty against Dougie, which was duly converted to bring the score to 3-2, things were looking decidedly dicey but we were still creating chances almost at will, with only the Fossil’s keeper preventing what could almost have been a rout. Nonetheless, it was a big relief when Jorge finally netted his third of the game to restore some breathing space and we managed to see the game out from there to get a very satisfying 4-2 win.
Unsurprisingly given his hat trick heroics, the man of the match award went to our Uruguayan goal machine Jorge, who took his tally to 5 for the season. The Scrotum medal went (rather harshly in his view) to Frank “I gave the keeper the eyes but he still saved it” Budde, which just goes to show how tough your teammates can be!
