R1 match Report: 45BC vs Terrigal

Rain greeted the 45BC return to Duffys after many years away. A newish Terrigal team got stuck straight into us from the whistle and after 20 mins of pressure a cross sneaked through to the back post where they converted it.

We tried to get our passing going with the central midfield starting to settle despite Terrigal’s continuous press. Just before halftime we got an indirect free kick after their goalie picked up a backpass, and Dave Watkiss stepped up to strike it through a sea of heads. The referee detected a deflection perhaps linked to Johns fine head of hair. Before long though their rather speedy forward was closing from the left and a deflection off Jim carried it into the corner. A goal down at half time we pushed and with Terrigal tiring started to string together some great passages of play. Neal hit the post from 25m and Ian had a shot smothered, but a careless backpass saw their forward collecting the ball and round the keeper for a tap in. 3-1 the final score, with Gunther getting MoM for his fine defensive work”
