BUFC D’s Vs Woy Woy

This week the dashing D’s were on manoeuvres along the peninsular trail for a Sunday make-up game against unbeaten top of the table Woy Woy. The unseasonably warm weather caused everyone to feel like they were appearing in an episode of ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’, with most of us searching for that long-lost bottle of factor 50 in our kit bags before kick off.

The first half saw the Barny Army making numerous forward incursions into enemy territory, particularly by La-de-da Gunner Graham (Del) down the right flank but with several good scoring opportunities being squandered. With ten minutes to go Gunner Parky (Nigel) jinked into their box only to be held back by a defender to earn only our second penalty this season, which Gunner Gloria (Denis) slotted home convincingly.

Half time score: BUFC 1 – Woy 0

Woy Woy attempted to mount a concerted counter-attack in the second half but the Barny Army manned the trenches with real determination (probably due to Sergeant Major Baldrick’s (Aaron) threat to kiss any deserters!) to repel everything that was thrown at us. 10 minutes in and Gunner Lofty (Ed) zig-zagged his way around two challenges before slotting home into the bottom corner to make it 2-0. The oppositions’ heads dropped visibly, with the Barny Army truly in command of the game and advancing at will, with La-de-da Gunner Graham wrapping things up with a well-taken solo third goal with 15 minutes to go.

Final score: BUFC 3 – Woy 0

All in all, a great team performance with everyone having solid games giving us a very deserved victory. This was our first clean sheet of the season and our dominance was confirmed by the fact that Baldrick didn’t have to make a save all game and we didn’t even have to defend a single corner.

Man of the match by a clear majority was Gunner Nosher (Pete Smith), who had a fine game at right back.
