Barnstoneworth MAA vs Umina – Match Report
The Barnstoneworth MAA boys managed to secure their first 3 points of the season with a smashing 5-2 victory over a young Umina side. The day started off lousy with our referee pulling out (shouldn’t have relied on the birthday boy refereeing after his party!) but we managed to find a back up! Then we lost one of our defenders to a plumbing emergency at home (let’s hope it wasn’t a euphemism Gibbsy!) but we welcomed Jacob and Chris into the side for their first game for Barnstoneworth. We took the lead early through the first half when a perfectly timed run from Frank was found by an average ball over the top from Dave Bloom and Frank expertly slotted it home across goal. 1-0.
Umina drew back level with a very unfortunate penalty being given against Hillsy for a handball. Our own ref gave a penalty against us! Umina slotted it past Harry and the celebrations were a little over the top to say the least.
The next 10 mins were all Umina and we had to be smart not to fall behind. We gathered ourselves and went again and managed to break through once again. Ayden Randall going on ‘one of his runs’ and walking through the entire middle of their team before slotting it home to put us 2-1 up before half time.
We came out after the break looking to start strong again and we did! Frank thinks he scored his 2nd of the game but I’m sure his shot was going wildly wide. 3-1. We settled into the game and looked comfortable. With about 20 mins to go, the game went into overdrive! Rhys Clark scored one of the most bizarre goals we have seen in this all age team. After some good defending, we broke down the left, ball was cut back in to the middle where it was fed to Rhys after their defence got drawn in forgetting he was there. Rhys then struck the ball, keeper saved, Bram then went to shoot and mishit the ball back to Rhys who tucked it bottom right corner. 4-1!
After more good defending, ball was cleared to Frank who looked up and saw Bram unmarked down the middle in our own half, through ball put through and defence called for Offside forgetting you can’t be offside in your own half. Bram showed us he still has legs, ran half the field and tucked into the bottom corner. 5-1!
For their 2nd goal, we couldn’t clear our lines and somehow our defence didn’t realise there was a free player right on the edge of our box. A good pass from their midfield found him as he pushed on towards Harry and slammed to shot straight down the middle. Harry almost got a hand to it, but the striker was too close and hit it too hard.
Final Score: 5-2!
Scorers: Frank Budde (2), Ayden Randall, Rhys Clark, Scott Brammall
