The last friendly before the new season saw a combined BUFC team take on a very competent Gosford C side on a lumpy pitch at Narara. Playing 4 20 minute quarters we passed the ball around well creating quite a few chances but unfortunately went 2-0 down in Q1 as Gosford slotted their only 2 chances in. Q2 saw BUFC exert plenty of pressure and much tighter at the back but no reward. Q3 and we were back in the game as 10 minutes of dominance was finally rewarded with Shaun slotting in coolly from the edge of the box for 2-1. Plenty of chances came our way but their keeper & defence scrambled everything away until John charging through on goal like a bull elephant was unceremoniously pushed over for a clear penalty. Would be good to report Kev took aim and unleashed a rocket into the top corner but unfortunately someone had either shrunk the goal by a couple of feet or he aimed for the wrong sheep who were watching in the background. (thought I’d better mention the sheep for the kiwis even tho’ they weren’t very attractive)
Gosford then bundled in a corner for 3-1 then added 2 late goals for a flattering 5-1 as they kept us a bay. These are the C’s 1st opponents next Saturday so should be a good game with the full side out.
A thanks to everyone for turning out, a fine runout, tough and solid opponents and great support from the sidelines.
Lastly the Horses Arse award was heading Kev’s way until our fave Scouser Mr Yates went on a fabulous weaving run along the centre line from the left to right. Stumbling past half the Gosford team before tangling with one of our own and falling over – pure class! No trophy but well done.
